"This was done in Corel Painter X with a graphic tablet. I drew it with charcoal on textured paper, to make it look more like a traditional drawing. Then I decided to add a background to fill the empty space. Because the reference photo didn't include an interesting background, I chose something a bit abstract and colourful, that would suit the style. It was highly inspired by Klimt's gorgeous patterns. Then I experimented a little with texturizer in Photoshop, till I got the desired effect of unsharp , merging lines and grain."
